#1 Skippable ads

This type of ad is a favorite from a user experience perspective, since viewers can skip it.

Youtube is also quite fair – when you place an ad, it needs to be viewed for at least 30 seconds or in its entirety if it lasts less than 30 seconds for it to be charged. One payment option is only after the viewer performs a specific pre-defined conversion.

#2 Non-skippable ads

Unlike the previous type, non-skippable ads must be watched in their entirety, and can last between 15 and 20 seconds.

Ads that cannot be skipped usually deliver strong exposure quickly – they are most often chosen for short-term campaigns when you want to quickly boost brand awareness.

#3 Bumper ads

The main drawback (some might say advantage) of this type of advertising is that the ads are not intrusive and do not appear automatically – they require another click from the viewer.

Unlike video ads, Youtube has also enabled more opportunities for driving traffic to websites through Display and Overlay ads.

Display ads appear to the right of the video, while Overlay ads are those that you can see semi-transparent over the video content itself.

How to launch a Youtube ad

To set up a Youtube ad, the process is not much different from setting up any other campaign in Google Ads:

  • log into your Youtube channel;
  • click on the channel icon or name;
  • then click on settings, and then advanced settings;
  • select the option to link the channel with your Google Ads account and then enter the requested details.

Launching the ad is done via Google Ads, in the left-hand menu where you find settings, campaigns, and so on. To open the different advertising options, click on Campaigns, then New campaign.

From there you can choose your campaign goal and many other parameters. The more interesting part follows – creating the campaign, assigning its name, duration, strategy, language, location, audience, keywords, placement, and much more. We will not list them all – you can explore further yourself.
